Best Mom and Dad Blogs
A recent article in the Birmingham News does a cursory review of the Best Mom and Dad Blogs. According to this particular writer (who’s probably not a parent, since he refers to parent blogs as “fun, voyeuristic reading”), the best parenting blogs are the ones that don’t take parenting too seriously; the kind that poke gentle fun at parenting by providing “irreverent and self-deprecating tales of life as a parent.”
The breed of parenting blogs which consist of “endless ramblings about sippy cups and cute gurglings” however, do not prove as entertaining for our just reporter: he confesses that he can’t even get through an entire post of that genre of blogs.
So what is this reporter trying to say, exactly? Relatablilty to subject matter be damned, if your blog is witty, amusing and generally entertaining, you’ve hit gold.
Blogs, so very personal in nature, posted on the world wide web, the most public forum imaginable. On the one hand, you’re expressing your personal views, opinions and experiences, but on the other, you’re publishing in a public medium where you will be read, assessed and evaluated. How does a blogger strike a balance between self-expression and public entertainment? Is there a popularity contest taking place in the blogosphere?
